Carpels and the shiny jet-black seed of Paeonia anomala var intermedia. The seed is weakly attached and can be knocked to the ground by a heavy rain; this is not the case with most species.

This is a diary by photo and comment to highlight the progress of plants, especially peonies, through the seasons at my home near Mount Uniacke/ Lakelands in Nova Scotia, Canada. Some other goings-on will probably also sneak into it.
